Sunbathers, Capri  taken in 1996 whilst I was traveling in Europe. A real slice of life pic.

On a baking hot summers day I had headed to a rocky beach to take some time out. There was group of young children testing each others courage, cliff diving into the blue water below. They were extremely vocal and one particular girl was taking great pleasure in showing up all the boys as she was significantly braver than them. Their mothers were stretched out on the rocks close by chatting away, completely unconcerned by the daring and somewhat risky antics of their offspring .I marveled at how laid back they were soaking up the sun and each others company. Their total lack of regard for the safety of the kids was quite different to what I was used and I watched to see how it would play out. I noticed that there was a great composition and moved myself into a position that I would be well placed to take advantage of it. I prefocused and did the manual settings facing away from them as i knew I would only get one opportunity at this. The conversation was animated and in one motion I stood up, turned and shot one frame. There was a stunned silence for a split second and then bursts of laughter as they registered what had happened. I had taken them by complete surprise and managed to capture the scene exactly as I had envisioned it. The little girl walking in the background was an unexpected bonus.
