Emerging is a conceptual piece that delivers a social commentary on the Bo Kaap area in Cape Town. A colourful, vibrant, 3 dimensional, framed work that reflects my observations of the district.
My gallery has been in the Bo Kaap for over 2 years and the image I used is one of Wale St, a prominent and well known, much photographed street. I wanted to create a work that was layered and dimensional and experimented with various ideas before settling on this. As the community, made up of many personalities and identities develops, it is reinventing itself emerging into something new. How they chose to embrace and harness the changes will ultimately reflect in their surroundings.
