Exploring Moments:
Your Window to Captivating Photographs
Little did I know.
More than 20 years ago a young muslim woman worked for me. (I think she may have taken the job because she knew she was going to get married in the near future.) I agreed to photograph her wedding for her as I wanted to do a muslim wedding and was curious about what took place. My only stipulation was that I would capture it in a documentary style apart from the mandatory family pics. She was a Bo Kaap muslim and her husband, Imran was from the Salt River community. Basically what happens is there is a mosque ceremony and then two receptions one for each family. These images were done up in the Bo Kaap and little did I know that 23 years later I would open a photographic gallery down the road from where I took the shots. What makes this interesting is when older locals pop in the recognize everyone in the photos as they are such a tight knit community. Everyone recognizes the nursery school teacher, the ‘twins’ who were high school teachers and the children who were the focus of my attention are now adults with families of their own.
