Exploring Moments:
Your Window to Captivating Photographs
Kaolas are the icons of cuteness.
Loved as fluffy bears across the globe they are not actually bears but marsupials, and whilst being super cute also have some serious claws for anchoring themselves in windswept trees and don’t particularly like being disturbed. Be careful they will take a swipe at you.
Living in Tulka, Port Lincoln, South Australia they are fairly common and in winter if you make a large barbie the heat attracts them and you can find them in the trees above you. In 2023 I had visited my sister and for her birthday we made a “bushy” and ended up with two Koalas in the tree above us. At the end of the evening and all the guests had left I decided to sleep next to the fire under the stars as we had not had many rain free days and I wanted to enjoy my last night in Aus.
In the middle of the night I awoke thinking “Crikey, I can hear my sister snoring from out here in her garden”, her bedroom was quite away away. As I lay there I realised it was the two furry critters above me sawing away. The following morning they obliged me with doing what they do best, and I was able to add to my Australian wildlife collection.
