A Southern Right Whale lifts it tail high as it prepares for a dive, sending water rushing off it.
Tail shots can take some patience to get as whales don’t always lift them before a dive. I have observed a rhythm in different individuals and they seem to stick to that pattern.
So if you get a good tail lifter keep an eye on it. I guess as swimmers have different styles so do whales. This whale was photographed near Camps Bay , Cape Town, South Africa
