Ostriches are such interesting looking birds.

To get slightly unusual images of well known and photographed animals is always exciting and when I saw these 4 making their way through a small grass filled depression, lit up by the morning backlight I stopped the vehicle immediately.

Although they are extremely robust, hardy and well adapted they always manage to bring out a smile in me. There is just a comical element to them that comes out when I photograph them. It’s not quite the ‘3 Stooges” but somehow it feels a bit like that. I thought about calling this image ‘Dawn Patrol” as it felt as if the ostrich with the open beak was barking out orders, whilst the haughty CO on the right was observing and there was a certain amount of dissention in the ranks. In the end I went with ‘Early Birds” who had perhaps been outfoxed by the worm.
