Creating incredible otherwordly scenes, Box Jellyfish, (Carybdea branchi), are pushed by currents and wind and end up accumulating in their thousands in areas depending on conditions.

 

Silently diving into them always creates a feeling of being an alien drifting down through an atmosphere of a mysterious planet. Not as venomous as it’s Aussie relatives it can deliver a sting. This was in a bay off Bakoven on the Atlantic Seaboard, Cape Town.

 

Shooting Black & White film underwater, on breath hold and then going into the darkroom to produce a unique ‘Lith Print’ I was able to capture and portray a distinctive interpretation of what I encountered on my countless free dives in and around Cape Town.
This series of prints remains some of my favorite and most treasured work.
