An esteemed jewel in Cape Town’s crown. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, a globally acclaimed botanic garden, a grand jewel in Cape Town’s tourism offering and the most glorious way to spend a sunny winters morning.
I have been waiting several months for the sunrise to come through at this angle and lower arc and with the onset of winter was rewarded for my patience. The recent rains have played their part and the vegetation is green and lush and I enthusiastically set up at my chosen viewpoint that showcases the Gardens on the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.
After a 20 minute wait the first rays appeared and brushed the highest peaks and from there things moved quickly. I started shooting my panoramic sequences and within seconds the whole slope was bathed in the most beautiful crisp morning light. Within minutes the quality of the light had changed and although still good was no longer at it’s optimum, slightly harder and less golden.
I basked in the splendor of the morning, hoping to perhaps see a Verreaux’s eagle gliding along the
cliffs on a early morning hunt, reflecting on the the foresight and vision of those before me and those who currently work tirelessly to maintain this invaluable heritage site.
