Beautiful, soft, mysterious and a little cryptic. Sometimes the name for a print just comes to you and “Pale Riders” is one of those.
Eland are the largest antelope in the world but are known as ghosts as they simply appear in front of you and disappear as easily. On the plains of ‘de Hoop’ nature reserve on a cool misty morning I came across this herd of young eland.
Their nickname of ghosts seemed quite apt in the setting and the egrets on their backs became slightly more visible as the first of the suns rays penetrated the thick mist. I looked at the print and saw this soft, atmospheric, hi key image of these “Ghosts” with white egrets riding on their backs, it just about named itself.
