Just outside of Nieuwoudtville, Northern Cape, there is a Quiver Tree (Aloidendron dichotomum) forest.
It is an interesting place and a challenge to try and capture the essence of it. As the trees are fairly spread out I wanted to compress the perspective and have wide angle look that covered the area and the extent of the ‘forest’. I used 17 images on a 400mm lens to create this panoramic shot that gave me the compressed, wide angle look I was after. When I shot it I knew I was going to create a monochrome print but didn’t have an idea as to the direction it would take.
This is the result.
Using technology to create previously not possible images (think Huddle Telescope) is creative and fun, although it does take a lot of space and time on the computer.
