An intimate encounter that I could so easily have missed and passed by. I share it with their mother as she takes a break from her Saturday morning shopping and watches her daughters amuse themselves in front of the shiny brass plaques of a lift lobby in Cape Town centre. Unfettered and free they exude joy and glee. A joy of motherhood moment that will warm her heart and make her journey worthwhile. All these daily gems that become treasures in our hearts.

This image is shot earlier on in my career and forms a loose collection of documentary shots that capture the energy and vibrancy that is so prevalent in South Africa. We are a young nation full of enthusiasm and a degree of naivety. There is a measure of innocence and a decided lack of self awareness that is refreshing. From a time before social media where children were unconcerned about anything more than enjoying the moment.
