It’s not often that we get whales in clean water with good viz into the water.
In summer the water temperature drops as there is an upwelling and it cleans up. This is what happened here, the water was an icy 11-12 degrees but I guess considering that they have swum up from the Antarctic it’s not that cold for them. Anyway the point I am making is the water is not usually that clean but here the body of the whale is visible as it dives down against a backdrop of spectacular mountains and the village of Llandudno on the Atlantic seaboard , Cape Town, South Africa.
Rising populations of Humpback whales mean that we are seeing large groups regularly in our summer months of November to March. It’s such a privilege and experience to witness this.
