Getting a good action shot of a kangaroo with nice light is actually much harder than you would expect. I always try and capture animals in a manner that displays a trait or quality of the animal and for a kangaroo it had to be bounding along displaying their amazing design and bio mechanics. Once they get going they expend hardly any energy to keep going along.

All along our roadtrip I had been doubling back on the Roo’s we saw and approaching them with the light low and from behind where possible. I worked out the distance I could be from them before they set off and I finally got it right late one afternoon as we made our way towards Wilpena Pound.
